I am going to preface this article with a note that this is the sister article to my blog post of why you should NOT start a real estate career. The main concept with both of these articles & the career or not-career topic is somewhat simple ... do this real estate career right & it can be amazing ... do it wrong or lackluster & it will be a financial flop. For today, we focus on the positive!
There are many reasons why real estate can be a great career choice:
Unlimited Earning Potential: Real estate agents typically work on commission, which means there is no limit to how much they can earn. Hardworking agents can earn a substantial income, especially in areas with high demand and high-value properties. There is a saying in the real estate coaching arena that goes something like this ... show me your schedule / habits, & I'll show you your income. I like to say that the income ceiling in real estate is the one you have in your head & it shows up in your daily habits. You may have $500k income goal, but if you only have $50k habits ... that's an issue.
Flexible Schedule: Real estate agents can often set their own schedules, which allows for a better work-life balance. This can be especially beneficial for those with families or other obligations. Keep in mind that the good news is that it is flexible ... the other side of that coin is calls at night & on-call on the weekends ... your schedule can be all over the place (blessing & a curse).
Variety of Work: Real estate agents have a diverse range of tasks, from meeting with clients, showing properties, negotiating deals, managing contracts, cranking out video, hustling on the phone. This variety can make the job more interesting and engaging.
Entrepreneurial Opportunity: Real estate agents essentially run their own business, which means they have the opportunity to be their own boss, set their own goals, and grow their business in their own way. The corporate scene is not for everyone & in real estate, you are your own boss!
Opportunity for Growth: Successful real estate agents can build a solid reputation and grow their business over time, leading to increased income and greater job satisfaction. More and more, the industry delivers solutions & tools to leverage & expand your business beyond just you & your geographical area ... we'll call this new-school progressive real estate.
Positive Impact on Clients: Helping people find their dream home or sell their property can be incredibly rewarding, and many real estate agents find fulfillment in knowing they've made a positive impact on their clients' lives.
Constant Learning: The real estate industry is constantly evolving, which means there is always something new to learn. This can keep the job interesting and challenging over time. The best agents are always learning , especially in a shifting market.
Overall, real estate can be a great career for those who enjoy working with people, have a passion for the industry, and are willing to put in the hard work and dedication required to be successful.
