Today’s lesson: getting priorities straight in your business
Get your mind set on this very simple concept: there are two boxes in your business, generating business and dealing with it.
Box 2 may be the reason you were attracted to real estate in the first place. Working with people, being your own boss, marketing, staging, seeing cool properties, architecture, design, the thrill of the hunt, finding the cool properties, negotiating, helping people change their lives. It’s the cool part of real estate, the sexy part of real estate.
And then there is the J.O.B. Box 1.
Box 1 is not all shiny, or superfun-woo-hoo-I-love-real-estate. Box 1 is not what attracted you to real estate in the first place. But box 1 is the most important. Getting these two boxes reversed can lead to tremendous stress and has led to the demise of many agents; it is quite possibly the most common Realtor mistake.
So keep these principles in mind as you build this thing called an enjoyable, reliable, financially viable, amazing real estate practice:
- Always start with box 1. Every day. This never changes.
- Your schedule must reflect the priority of box 1.
- Box 1 is your JOB. This never changes.
- Box 1 leads to Box 2.
- Don’t lead with sexy; earn sexy.
The health and happiness of your business falls on the shoulders of a healthy client pipeline. You don’t need 10 clients, you need 100. Every day, generate business. Every day, make sure the job of box 1 is your priority. Get comfortable with this and you can build an enjoyable, reliable, financially viable, amazing real estate practice.
