In 2013 we designed and built the house of our dreams. Our contemporary farmhouse on 3 acres.
We planned this house for years. Year after year of AIA tour. Years on Pinterest and Houzz. We loved the planning process and Pinterest was a huge help for organizing all of our ideas. If you go to my Pinterest page, you’ll see we have various boards from everything for barn, pool, color, cabinets, architects as well as gardens, chickens, donkeys and various business endeavors.
First, we had to find the property. No small task is Austin, Texas as just about everyone wants that sweet 2-5 acres within mini-commute range of Whole Foods or Alamo Drafthouse. Long story short, we spied this property next to our bff for a couple years before we actually wrote a personal letter to the owner offering to purchase it for full retail value. It was not on the market. We got it because we wrote a sweet letter to a 90 year old woman. Told her we would be good stewards of the land. She had had offers on and off for years. Our offer was the right one at the right time.
We hired Stuart Sampley not only for the design, but also for the project management … one of the best decisions we made, worth every penny.
And I guess Stuart was proud of the project because he sent his photographer over and we now have a page on Houzz. Check it out and tell us your favorite feature. And when you’re ready to design and build, give us a shout.
